Kite Making
On the island of Bali the skies are filled with of wonderful handmade creations. Children learn to make their own kites from a very young age. Limited resources such as a few strips of shaved bamboo, a piece of paper and length of string can be turned into a prized flyer, at Ubud Hanging Gardens local children share experiences with our young guests.
There is two common types of kites that the Balinese children enjoy to make and fly. The first is a small lightweight fighting kite called rerean as well as a slightly larger traditional style model that is referred to as bebean. Look out for both during your stay. | |

Dance Classes
Twice a week at our Diatas Pohon Café, children from nearby Susut village are taught the Legong dance.
Ubud is one of the villages which is considered to be the home of the Legong dance. These villages’ possess long Legong traditions, and most of them still have their own high quality Legong groups today.
The dancers start dancing for public at a very early age. Traditionally they are selected among little girls in the village for their suppleness and beauty. They will dance the Legong until the age of puberty, before they start dancing some of the many other traditional Balinese dances.
